Better Luck Tomorrow w/ Alain Uy
“I’m sitting there watching MTV when I’m going to college, and I’m like, ‘Oh my god! I’m seeing a commercial of these Asian guys that are in a movie!’” —Alain Uy
Aditya chats with actor, producer, and director Alain Uy on the importance of being given a chance to fail, meeting Justin Lin on the set of “True Detective,” and the wild, irrepressible spirit of Lin’s solo directorial debut Better Luck Tomorrow (2002).
Alain Uy is a multi hyphenate actor, director, producer, and writer. Born in Dagupan City, Philippines and originally of Chinese-Filipino descent, Alain grew up in Los Angeles, where he trained to be a professional dancer until he fractured his hips in a car accident. While in recovery, he found acting. His TV credits include: HBO’s “True Detective,” FOX’s “The Passage,” and many more.
Aside from his acting career, Alain also runs Los Angeles based production company, Them Too, which has produced content for A list musical acts including The Chainsmokers, Steve Aoki, Avicii, DeadMau5, and Calvin Harris.
This year, Alain can be seen starring in Hulu/Marvel’s upcoming thriller-drama series “Helstrom” and the indie action/comedy feature Paper Tigers. Paper Tigers is currently on the national and international festival circuit and “Helstrom” is now available on Hulu.
