The Story
Mediaversity Reviews began life on Tumblr in December 2016 as a place for Li Lai to capture her thoughts on representation in television and film. She launched the website in May 2017 to house the reviews and has since added contributors. In September 2020, Mediaversity acquired a podcast produced by Aditya Joshi and Amanda Lewellyn.
Mediaversity is a passion project that receives some crowdfunding through Patreon but remains partially self-funded. The bulk of its budget goes to paying diverse writers from underrepresented communities. By day, Li works as a senior director at Common Sense Media in New York City. Her professional background includes experiential marketing and design.
