The Big Sick w/ Zenobia Shroff
“Boy, did I get criticism from the South Asian community, saying I played it stereotyped; you were a caricature; this and that.” —Zenobia Shroff
Aditya has on one of his favorite actors, Zenobia Shroff, to talk about her path to success, being considered "exotic" when she moved to the United States, and whether her American big break, The Big Sick (2017), is actually a movie about the South Asian experience.
Zenobia Shroff has been an actress for thirty years. She got her start in Mumbai under the mentorship of the legendary Pearl Padamsee. In 2017 she had her breakout role as Kumail Nanjiani’s mother in the Oscar-nominated film The Big Sick. Recently, she has also appeared on The Affair, The Resident, and Madam Secretary.
