Aditya chats with actor and comedian Rita Sengupta about queer representation, coming out to a South Asian family, and Nisha Ganatra’s absurd and heartfelt debut film Chutney Popcorn (1999).

Rita Sengupta is a queer South Asian American actor and comedian based in Brooklyn, NY. Most recently, she was one of the 30 authors selected to be a part of Brown Girl Magazine's first print anthology, Untold: Defining Moments of the Uprooted, published by Mango and Marigold Press. Untold is a collection of creative nonfiction stories that explores the South Asian experience and has been praised by Padma Lakshmi, Kal Penn, and DJ Rekha.

Rita's work has also been featured by WNYC, Buzzfeed, and Glamour Magazine. Recent comedy festivals include NYC Sketchfest and Asian Comedy Festival. You can find her around NYC doing stand-up and performing with various sketch comedy groups.
